First off, an FO. It’s really difficult to take decent pictures of your own feet.

Pattern: Monkey from Knitty

Yarn: Live 2 Knit Elizabeth Superwash Merino (2 skeins in Damask)

Needles: Knitpicks 2.5mm circs

Modifications: None

I’m really happy with the way these turned out. They’re pretty, wam and comfortable. The lace pattern was easy to memorize and really quick to knit. If I hadn’t been knitting them almost exclusively “on the go”, they would have been finished in less than a week. They are, however, a bit loose on my feet. I’ve got pretty skinny feet (alot of shoes are too wide for them) and ankles and I think 64 stitches are probably slightlty too many. It was a great experience though, my first “real” socks for myself, and I know I’ll wear them lots.

I’ve definately caught the sock knitting bug, and have found myself obsessed with sock yarn, especially the hand-painted stuff. It comes in so many gorgeous colours and varieties, and while I would never knit a jumper in crazy colours, I could definately see myself making some pretty crazy socks. Yesterday I received another package from The Knittery with three skeins of cashmere sock yarn, including this gorgeous colourway, “Moonlight”.

I was planning to use it with Dark Reds to make the Entrelac Socks from Interweave Knits, but while it’s beautiful, it’s alot more varigated than I imagined and will probably be used for something else. It’s so soft and beautiful, I’ve got several different colourways of this yarn just waiting to be made into socks (what do I knit first?). I also got some Brittany Birch 2.25 DPNs. The other yarn in the picture is Lovers Walk from Pierre the Yarn Snob.

I’ve also taught myself to find flat stackable skeins similar to the ones made by ballwinders, but by hand. I don’t like using centrepull balls, but I love the way the flat balls look so I just use them from the outside like regular balls. They’re not as perfect as the ones made by ballwinders (and I assume they take much longer – not that I’ve ever used a ballwinder) but they’re still pretty to look at.
